Today I was more then happy to have the opportunity to Interview Anne Blondel-Jouin. She is the Executive Producer of The Crew. Being a racing game fan since a child I have been looking forward to this game. When I gained the opportunity to interview someone behind the scenes of a gaming changing game I had a few quick questions. Check out the interview below and make sure to check out our Twitch Channel as I will be playing it live.
Hatta: Hello, First I want to thank you for taking the time to sit down with us. How are you today?
Anne : I’m very fine thank you. Also very excited as THE CREW is to be officially launched tomorrow worldwide.
Hatta: OK, so you are the Executive Producer of ‘The Crew’ coming out December 2nd. What exactly is your role in the production of The Crew?
Anne: I make sure the dev team has all of the means it needs to achieve its quality, budget and planning objectives. Therefore I deal with resources for instance, trying to have the best experts join the team for very specific issues. I also work very closely with Ubisoft business, PR and marketing teams so that the players can access the game as early as possible. It was my responsibility for example to put in place all of the 4 closed betas (2 for PC, 2 for consoles) and the open beta so that we can get proper feedback from the community early enough to ensure the smoothest launch possible.
Hatta: What are some of your favorite things / features about the game? What would you say makes a gamer keep going back to playing The Crew?
Anne: Freedom is definitely my number 1 feature. I’ve never experienced in a game the same amount of freedom I’ve felt while driving for real in the beautiful US landscape. Number 2 would be the way it enables you to play whenever with whomever in a crew in coop or in PvP. I love the fact that we already can see all kind of emergent gameplays being created by the players themselves for their friends/crew.
Hatta: With other Racing games on the market how do you feel The Crew provides a different experience to Gamers?
Anne: Each racing game this year brought something different to the genre for good. But I have to say I have the feeling there will be a before and an after THE CREW. We tried to mix racing and MMO with building up a new genre. But of course it would be up to the players to decide whether they like this way to play or not.
Hatta: How many different cars are there and how many different variations of one car can be done in The Crew?
Anne: I can’t say right now as we’re one day prior to the launch. I want to keep the surprise for the players to discover this by themselves.
Hatta: The Crew looks absolutely amazing on a graphics stand point. How well does it run on PS4 and Xbox one?
Anne: It runs at 30 fps 1080 p on both platforms
Hatta: With Playstation’s last update they enabled the “Play Share” feature on the PS4. Will this be a available feature in The Crew?
Anne: This is definitely a feature we’re looking into as it does fit with THE CREW game vision but I can’t say when we will be able to provide it to the players. Stay tuned for more news on this 🙂
Hatta: How long have you been in the gaming industry and how long have you been gaming yourself?
Anne: I have been in the gaming industry for almost 19 years now. And I’ve been gaming for 30 years more or less thanks to my little brother who was the one bringing the VG at home.
Hatta: Ubisoft is one of my favorite companies with games like Assassin’s Creed and Fry Cry and the list goes on. How has it been working with Ubisoft?
Anne: It’s been a total blast. When I joined the company it was already transforming itself from a start up to a middle sized company. And I’m very proud that I’ve been there all of those years to help this company grow bigger and stronger. I’m very proud of this indeed.
Hatta: For our readers that are interested in getting into the gaming industry do you have any advice for them?
Anne: Always believe into your guts feeling. You’re in the entertainment industry and you will be able to bring fun and happiness to the players only if you’re happy and having fun doing your job. On top of that, never ever forget it is a real job : you have great responsibility.
Hatta: Great advice thank you. Would you like to give any shout outs and post any links?
Anne: Shout out to the dev team of course here at Ivory Tower and to all of the business, marketing and PR teams in Ubisoft who’re making tomorrow’s launch possible because they believed in that something special THE CREW has and that hopefully players will also experience by themselves, soon, very soon…
Hatta: I certainly thank you for this interview. It has been a pleasure to not only learn about ‘The Crew’ but to learn about you as well.
Anne: Thank you for your interest in the game!
